Welcome to MyStorian ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and the security of your family’s most precious memories. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the MyStorian mobile application (the "App") and our website.

By downloading or using MyStorian, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. We do not sell your family’s data, memories, or media to third parties.

1. Information We Collect

To provide a seamless legacy-building experience, we collect the following types of information:

A. Personal Data You Provide

  • Account Information: Name, email address, password, phone number, and billing information when you register for a free or subscription account.

  • Family Profile Data: Names, relationships, and basic profile details of family members you explicitly invite or tag in your "Family Toolbox."

B. User Content and Media (Sensitive Data)

Because MyStorian is a multimedia memoir app, we collect and store the content you intentionally upload:

  • Text Inputs: Written stories, journal entries, and answers to our 10-Year Chapter prompts.

  • Media Files: Photographs, video clips, and voice/audio recordings uploaded via the core chapters, the Family Toolbox, or the AI Family Historian feature.

C. Device Permissions

To function properly, the App will explicitly request your permission to access native hardware:

  • Camera Permission: To take photos or record video interviews for the AI Family Historian.

  • Microphone Permission: To record voice memos, audio stories, and interview answers.

  • Photo Library / Storage Access: To allow you to select and upload existing physical or digital photos to your chapters.

D. Automatically Collected Data

  • Log and Usage Data: Basic diagnostic data, app performance logs, and usage statistics (e.g., app crashes, feature usage) to help us improve the experience for senior users. We do not track your location or use tracking cookies for advertising.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data strictly to run and secure your experience:

  • To create and maintain your secure private account.

  • To process your subscription payments securely via Apple App Store / Google Play In-App Purchases.

  • To host and deliver your uploaded photos, videos, and audio clips seamlessly via enterprise-grade cloud architecture (Amazon Web Services S3).

  • To generate dynamic, relevant interview questions through our AI Family Historian engine based on the events you record.

  • To connect you with a live human Story Guide for your 30-minute onboarding consultation.

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

Your privacy is our business model. We restrict the sharing of your data to the absolute bare minimum required to run the service:

  • Your Family Circle ("The Reunion"): Content you explicitly choose to publish is shared only with the maximum of 10 family members you intentionally invite into your private Family Toolbox. Outside users cannot search for or view your family profile.

  • Third-Party Service Providers: We share data only with highly secure, industry-standard infrastructure providers required to operate the app:

    • Storage: Amazon Web Services (AWS S3) for secure media hosting.

    • Authentication: Secure identity providers (such as Google/Apple native sign-in tokens) to handle user logins safely without storing passwords directly.

  • Legal Requirements: We will only disclose your data if strictly required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.

4. Data Security

The security of your family memories is our highest priority.

  • Encryption: All user data is encrypted in transit using Secure Socket Layer/Transport Layer Security (HTTPS) and encrypted at rest within our AWS S3 servers using industry-standard AES-256 encryption.

  • Access Control: We utilize secure, temporary, expiring Pre-Signed URLs for all video, audio, and photo files. This ensures that media links cannot be intercepted or shared publicly outside of the App interface.

5. Your Data Rights & Deletion

You retain full ownership over your life story. At any time, you have the right to:

  • Access, update, or edit any text or media inside your 10-Year Chapters.

  • Revoke family guest access to your Family Toolbox.

  • Request Complete Account Deletion: You can request the permanent deletion of your account and all associated media files directly through the App settings or by emailing our support team. Upon deletion, all of your files will be permanently wiped from our AWS S3 storage buckets.

6. Children’s Privacy

While MyStorian allows users to log family histories that may mention or include media of children (e.g., childhood memories or grandchildren), the App is designed for use by adults. We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
